History
With a nickname coined by the press, Green Arrow and his sidekick Speedy made it their mission to protect Star City. Green Arrow joined the Justice League of America and soon fell in love with member Black Canary. In the ensuing year after losing his fortune, Ollie traveled the country with Green Lantern Hal Jordan while his left-behind ward dabbled with drugs that caused the two to go their separate ways.
Green Arrow fashioned himself over the years into a modern-day Robin Hood that has been on both sides of the law while seeking his own brand of justice with a bow. On one such case, while stopping a militant group called the Eden Corps, Oliver Queen was killed in an airplane explosion over Metropolis. After Queen's death, Connor Hawke, the son whom he had barely known, picked up the bow and continued the good fight as the second Green Arrow.
This wasn't Oliver's end, however, as Hal Jordan (during his time as Parallax) used godlike powers to bring his old friend back from the dead. Unfortunately, the reanimated hero was an empty vessel with no soul, whose memories were replicated from his earlier days when he had a stronger liberal conscience. Ollie's more experienced soul remained in a Heaven-like place for a time, until it was reunited with his body in order to defeat an evil warlock named Stanley Dover. Now, the original Green Arrow is back in action with a rare second chance at life to make up for previous mistakes with his loved ones, all while renewing his vows to be a defender of the downtrodden.

During the Infinite Crisis, Ollie was engaging in a duel with Merlyn when Doctor Light (Arthur Light) triggered massive explosions. Critically injured by the attack, Ollie (along with Connor and Mia) relocated to the Marshall Islands where they remained in convalescence for several months. Once healed from his injuries, Oliver spent a fortune to hire the world’s foremost martial arts masters to come to the island. Over the course of many weeks, Ollie trained under the masters' tutelage until he was in peak physical condition. He further hired an assassin named Natas (the man who trained Deathstroke) to mentor him in the killing arts – a decision met with great enmity by his son, Connor. During this period, Ollie met a political campaign advisor named Frederick Tuckman. As Tuckman detailed the state of affairs in Star City, Ollie decided to take his fight in an entirely new direction.[2]
One Year Later, Ollie has been named mayor of Star City. He fended off a recent attack from Deathstroke.

Alternate Media
- Green Arrow appeared on nine episodes of the Cartoon Network animated television series, Justice League Unlimited where he was voiced by actor Kin Shriner. [3] Like his comic book counterpart, Ollie struck a relationship with fellow League member Black Canary. He first appeared in the episode entitled "Initiation" and made either full or cameo appearances in the following related episodes:
- Fearful Symmetry
- The Cat and the Canary
- Double Date
- Flashpoint
- Divided We Fall
- To Another Shore
- Patriot Act
- Far From Home
- In October of 2006, Oliver Queen appeared on the Season 6 episode of Smallville entitled "Sneeze". Played by former Aquaman actor Justin Hartley, Queen was introduced as a potential business rival to Lionel Luthor. To demonstrate his expertise at archery, Oliver stood on the roof of his Metropolis office and fired an arrow into the sky after speaking the word, "Borneo". The arrow flew across the street and struck the designation of Borneo on the globe of the Daily Planet. [4] In the episode titled "Wither", Oliver Queen meets Lois Lane and invites her to attend a costume ball hosted by Lex Luthor. Although his disguise is intended to reflect the folk hero Robin Hood, the design is more in line with the costume that Ollie wore during the Silver Age years of DC Comics. In the episode, Ollie reunites with Lex Luthor whom he has not seen since their boarding school days. [5] In the following episode, "Arrow", Oliver Queen becomes Green Arrow in both name and deed. After stealing a black market gemstone from Lionel Luthor, Ollie earns the attention of the inquisitive neophyte reporter, Lois Lane. Lois (who refers to the hero as the Green Arrow Bandit), plays true to form and becomes the victim of several unscrupulous businessmen, forcing the Green Arrow and Clark Kent to work together to rescue her. By the end of the episode, Clark and Ollie discover each other's greatest secrets. Before parting, Ollie gives Clark some free advice indicating that his gifts should be used for the benefit of the entire world, not just for the people that he is close to.[6]
- Reference to Oliver Queen was also made in Smallville's pilot episode where a newspaper headline announced that the CEO of Queen Industries was missing. [7]
- Although created years earlier, Green Arrow is analogous to the Marvel Comics character, Hawkeye.
Merchandise
- In 1975, the Mego Corporation produced the first Green Arrow action figure. Standing 8" tall, the figure was released in two distinctive body styles, the second of which, came with a yellow colored vest rather than the traditional green vest. [8] Most Mego super-hero toys of the time period were provided with their own action figure accessories, and Green Arrow was no exception. Mego released the Arrow-car (called the Green Arrow car), which came equipped with a front-loaded projectile launcher. [9]
- In late 2006 DC Direct released a two-pack collection of Green Arrow and Deathstroke as part of their three-wave MiniMates toy series. [10]
Trivia
- Despite the difference in hair color, Oliver Queen bears a strong physical resemblance to Travis Morgan - the Warlord. Upon visiting Star City, the Warlord was accosted by many members of the criminal underworld who mistook him for Oliver Queen. According to artist Mike Grell, the confrontation between Oliver Queen and the Warlord was born from a joke in which Grell was accused of only being able to draw one style of character. [11][12]
